چکیده

The SLAC real-space renormalization group method is used to study one-dimensional antiferromagnetic chains at zero temperature. Calculations using three-site blocks (for the Heisenberg-Ising model) and two-site blocks (for the isotropic Heisenberg model) are compared with exact results. In connection with the two-site calculation a duality transformation is introduced under which the isotropic Heisenberg model is self-dual. Such duality tranformations can be defined for models other than those considered here, and may be useful in various block-spin calculations. (Submitted to Phys. Rev. Renormalization of the quasiparticle hopping integrals by spin interactions in layered copper oxides

Holes doped within the square CuO2 network specific to the cuprate superconducting materials have oxygen 2p character. We investigate the basic properties of such oxygen holes by wavefunctionbased quantum chemical calculations on large embedded clusters. We find that a 2p hole induces ferromagnetic correlations among the nearest-neighbor Cu 3d spins. When moving through the antiferromagnetic ba...

Frustrated quantum Heisenberg ferrimagnetic chains

We study the ground-state properties of weakly frustrated Heisenberg ferrimagnetic chains with nearest and next-nearest neighbor antiferromagnetic exchange interactions and two types of alternating sublattice spins S1 > S2, using 1/S spin-wave expansions, density-matrix renormalization group, and exact-diagonalization techniques. It is argued that the zero-point spin fluctuations completely des...

First Order Transition in the Frustrated Antiferromagnetic Heisenberg S=1 Quantum Spin Chain.

We study a frustrated Heisenberg S ෇ 1 quantum spin chain with next-nearest neighbor (NNN) coupling a using a variational ansatz and the density matrix renormalization group. We find as quantum remnants of the phase transition in the classical chain a disorder point at a D ෇ 0.284͑1͒ and a Lifshitz point at a L ෇ 0.3725͑25͒. Our main finding is a first-order transition from an Affleck-Kennedy-Lieb-...

Density-matrix renormalization-group studies of the spin-1/2 Heisenberg system with dimerization and frustration.

Using the density matrix renormalization group technique, we study the ground state phase diagram and other low-energy properties of an isotropic antiferromagnetic spin-half chain with both dimerization and frustration, i.e., an alternation δ of the nearest neighbor exchanges and a next-nearest-neighbor exchange J2 . For δ = 0, the system is gapless for J2 < J2c and has a gap for J2 > J2c where...

Excitations in a four-leg antiferromagnetic Heisenberg spin tube.

Inelastic neutron scattering is used to investigate magnetic excitations in the quasi-one-dimensional quantum spin-liquid system Cu(2)Cl(4).D(8)C(4)SO(2). Contrary to previously conjectured models that relied on bond-alternating nearest-neighbor interactions in the spin chains, the dominant interactions are actually next-nearest-neighbor in-chain antiferromagnetic couplings. The appropriate Hei...
